Program Culture

THE GENERAL’S CREED (Program Culture)

Our culture defines who we are and how we act. It is the attitudes, beliefs, and norms of our program. It is our identity. We want to intentionally build a program culture that holds all of us (players, coaches, parents) to the highest standard, and that best characterizes Lafayette Boys Soccer. Our culture will always be evolving but we expect all members to buy in, and we will consistently reinforce the standards laid out below.

THE GENERAL’S CODE (Culture Covenants)

1. How we do anything is how we do everything. #anythingeverything

We must hold ourselves to our highest standard in every part of our lives. Think of your potential as a person, student, friend, athlete, teammate, brother, son, etc. Are you getting close to this potential or are you allowing yourself to settle for less? Maybe much less? If we only give 75% of our potential, then the results will only be 75%. When we begin to settle for less in some areas of our lives, we become more likely to settle for less in other areas as well. Hold yourself accountable both on and off the field. And hold each other accountable as well!

2. If we want to go far, we must go together. #weoverme

We are a family. From senior to 7th grader, we are all in this together. From starter to the bench, we all play an important role. We all contribute to our success, and we all contribute to our failures. In order for us to reach our best as a team, nobody can be greater than the team. Our goals are only accomplished by competing as brothers. Love each other. Celebrate each other’s success. Care for each other. Connect with each other. Our best is impossible to reach without a strong bond.

3. Our positivity is greater than any negativity we face. #positivityconquers

Negativity kills teams and it kills programs. We must be stronger as individuals and as a collective whole. No matter what we face, whether it’s internal or external, it can’t be greater than the positive energy we bring each and every day. Make it a habit. Bring it to every single training session. Bring it to every game no matter your role. Bring it off the field when you are with your brothers. Do not be an energy vampire, and don’t let your brothers be one either.

4. We always stand taller with someone else on our shoulders. #servefirst

We put the needs of others above the needs of ourselves. Think about your brothers first before you think of yourself. Do not be a selfish teammate. Everyone in the program can impact the experience of someone else, or even many others. Lead with the interests of your brothers in mind. Leadership is about serving those you lead. Do not be a selfish leader! Think of the community before you think of yourself.  Give back in your personal lives. Volunteer. Spend time with charities. Do not live a selfish life.

5. We are stronger than our strongest excuse. #noexcuses

We do not make excuses. Excuses are crippling. They cripple teams. They cripple players. They cripple people. Be accountable. Do not blame others! Be responsible. Do not let your brothers down by not fulfilling your responsibility to the team. Make it a habit. Take care of your body. Take care of your schoolwork. Take care of your uniform. Be on time. Eliminate excuses in training and in games. Own your mistakes. Own your role.
