2011 Jim Smith Sportsmanship Award Winner
John Adams

With so many players worthy of the Jim Smith Sportsmanship Award it’s hard to nominate just one person but based on not only this season, but the previous 3 other that I have played in the league I would like to nominate John Adams for the Jim Smith Sportsmanship Award.
I never had the opportunity to meet Jim Smith, but from the things I have heard and read he must have been a man of Character and when I think of John Adams that’s the first thing that comes to my mind.
Having played with John for 3 years on the Gold Team and 1.5 years on the Tournament Team I have never heard him say one negative thing about another person, team or circumstance. He has always treated others with respect and as such has gained the respect of others deservingly so. He has been a great influence and encouragement to me and many others. He is the first to go out of his way to encourage someone with a “well done” after a good hit or play and to help pick someone up when things didn’t go as hoped with a “good try” or “great effort”.
John’s reputation as a very good hitter, fielder and base runner at all levels of play is only exceeded by his being a Team Player. It has never been just about his talents but what is best for the Team and insuring that others are having fun playing a game we all love. He has managed the Gold Team, been an assistant manager, coached bases, pitch run, pitched batting practice, and played a supporting role so others could play. He is one of the main reasons for the Positive Chemistry the Gold Team has become known for.
John will always give his best and has helped others to become their best by passing on his knowledge of the game. He’s at all games and league practices with a positive giving attitude. John wants to win but has never had the attitude of win at whatever cost to others.
Winning, losing or just at practice John is the ultimate Sportsman and has always represented the League with CLASS. And I am fortunate to have played with him during these times.
