Jim Smith 2018

Gene Mayhue

I am a first year player. I played on the Orange team with Gene Mayhue. He is 84 years old and is an inspiration to me on how he carries himself. He never quits. He somehow gets a bump or scrape every game and just keeps playing. A teammate and I nick named him “Timex”. He takes a licking and keeps on ticking! He never complains and is always encouraging other teammates. He has a great attitude no matter the circumstances of each game. It was a real honor and inspiration to play on a team with him.  I think he is very deserving of this recognition.

I would like to nominate Gene Mayhue for sportsmanship award.  I have been involved with GSS for several years now and have had the pleasure to play with and against Gene.  He is great example of what our organization represents.  Gene is a great competitor, a great teammate and above all just a great guy to be around.  He displays a great attitude at all times and shows up to do whatever is asked of him.   He gives you 100% in everything you ask of him on the field and off.   As a manager, you see how important it is to have people like him to support you and willing to do anything put in from of him.
