Bob Martilotta

 

 

 

I have had the pleasure of having Bob on my team for the last couple of seasons.  Bob is a competitor, a professional and a gentleman.  

 

Bob always has a positive attitude and plays the game the way it should be played.  

 

Bob is a great communicator - on and off the field.  

 

Bob has a very high softball player IQ.  

 

Bob is a great teammate.  He is supportive of all guys on our team.  He lifts people up when they are getting down on themselves.  

 

A sportsman is that person who is willing to rise to the challenge. Bob is always willing to play anywhere on the field.  "Just put me where you need me coach and bat me where I can best contribute to the team." 

A sportsman is also a player who will play well when the game is on the line .  I cannot tell you how many late, clutch hits Bob has contributed to our team.  When he comes through, it's a simple clap of the hands and instant refocus on that moment in the game. There's no loud celebrations that might show up the other team.  It's back to the business at hand and ... the love and respect for the game itself.  

 

When the games are over, Bob quickly jumps in line and is one of the first to congratulate the players on the other team - win or lose!  

 

For all of the reasons above, I believe Bob is deserving of the Jim Smith Sportsmanship Award.
