Falcons season comes to a close with 4-2 loss to Rockyhill/RHAM
The Falcons closed the season out on Monday night in Danbury losing in the first round of the D3 playoffs with a 4-2 loss to Rockyhill/RHAM.  The Falcons took an early lead in the game when Lucas Kynoch scored off a centering pass from Charlie Goldburg who got a pass from Adam Jacobs.  Rockyhill was able to tie the game up minutes later when a rebound could not be cleared in front of starting goalie Trevor Hirst and a Rockyhill skater was able to poke it in the net.  The first period ended in a 1-1 tie.
The second period was a quiet one for the Falcons, who were feeling the effects of playing their third 3 game in 6 days.  Rockyhill was able to capitalize with their second goal, taking the lead at 2-1.
The third period saw the Falcons come out and leaving it all on the ice.  Charlie Goldburg was able to score a shorthanded goal with assists from Andrew Horvath and Kevin Mallozzi.  However, it would be the last goal the Falcons would score this season.  Despite tieing the game, the Falcons could not mount any more offense while the team from Rockyhill scored two unanswered goals to salt the game away with the 4-2 victory.

The Falcons had an AMAZING season this year.  It was a season with many highs and very few lows.

The team would like to thank all the fans who came out to support the team.  We could not do it without you!

CHAMPIONS!

Hirst's 32 saves leads Falcons to first SWC Championship since 1997.
Despite being outshot by a 3 to 1 margin and taking 9 penalties in the game, the Falcons were able to pull off the upset over the #1 ranked co-op from Brookfield/Bethel/Danbury.  Andrew Horvath scored the only goal of the first period with assists from Charlie Goldburg and Kyle McCann when he ripped a blast passed the BBD goalie late in the period.
BBD answered in the second period tieing the score at one goal a piece.  McCann and fellow senior Kevin Mallozzi got the Falcons the lead again when a long pass from defenseman Joe Ventricelli got to Mallozzi in the offensive zone.  Mallozzi was able to dig the puck out of the corner and feed the puck to McCann.  McCann's first shot was denied but he was able to find his own rebound and put the Falcons back on top 2-1.  The period ended with that same score.
BBD was determined to tie the score in the third but Hirst would not allow it, turning away all 13 attempts by the Icecats.  All four defensemen, Matt Kynoch, Joe Ventricelli, Ryan McGowen and Andrew Horvath also did a great job of clearing the puck from in front of the net, not allowing any rebounds to be put in the net.  The Falcons were able to ice the game away on an empty net goal by McCann with 3 seconds left.

Earning All-Tournament honors were Kevin Mallozzi, Andrew Horvath and Kyle McCann.  Trevor Hirst earned the All-Tournament MVP.

The Falcons now move onto the Division 3 state tournament where they are the 8 seed.  The first game is in the Danbury Arena on Monday 3/9 at 6:40 against the  #9 seed Rockyhill/RHAM co-op.

Falcons advance to SWC finals with thrilling 3-2 win over New Milford Green Wave
.

The first period was dominated by the Green Wave as they peppered starting (and eventual winning) goalie, Trevor Hirst with 12 shots while the Falcons only managed to tally a single shot according to the score-keeper.  Hirst turned away all attempts in the first frame keeping the score at a 0-0 tie.
The second period was a different story.  The Falcons drew first blood while on a penalty kill.  Kevin Mallozzi was able to put the puck by the New Milford netminder on a rebound from a shot from Kyle McCann. With less than a minute to play in the period, the Falcons had a face-off in the Green Wave zone.  Mallozzi won the faceoff directly to McCann who wasted no time and slapped the puck past the New Milford goalie who was caught off guard.  The Falcons nearly made it 3-0 second later when Lucas Kynoch rang a shot off the post which bounced away from the net.  The second period ended with the Falcons leading 2-0.
New Milford came out in the third period on a mission.  They were able to tally their first goal about half way through the period.  With 2:17 left in the game, they tied the game up on a backhand shot that Hirst was not able to see as he was screened by a number of players.  The game looked as though it was headed to overtime.  The Falcons had other ideas.  With less than a minute, the Falcons were able to get the puck deep into the New Milford zone where they got the puck infront of the net.  A mad scrammble ensued and the puck squeezed out next to the Green Wave goalie.  McCann was able to find the puck, which was rolling along the goal line, and poke it in for the game winning goal with 28.8 seconds remaining.  New Milford argued that the goalie had the puck coverd but the official had a clear view of the puck the entire time and made the call. Andrew Horvath and Phil King were both credited with assists on the goal.

The Falcons find themselves in the finals of the SWC D2 playoffs for the first time since the 96-97 season.  They will face the Icecats of the BBD co-op who beat the Watertown-Pomperaug co-op 2-1.

The finals are to be played at 6:00pm in the Danbury Arena on Saturday 3/7.
