Vikings Show Well At Spring Jamboree
The Vikes wrapped up a successful spring camp Friday May 8th going undefeated through 3 mini-games at MHHS. In the first game the Vikes faced the McCoy/Eagle Butte Colts . This years version of the Blue Death D carried on from where it left off, delivering big hits and allowing very few yards/completions against. The game featured many big hits, including several by junior LB Garrett Stubbs. In the 2nd Series Grade 10 QB Dan Dubinski hooked up with Slotback Gregg Hannah for the first of many TD's of the day between this duo. Final Score CHHS- 7- McCoy 0.
In the 2nd Matchup it was the Vikes revamped offence getting the timing down and hooking up for many big plays downfield against the MHHS Mohawks. The Vikes drove the field 3 times coming away with 2 TD's. The Vikes Defence was up to the challenge as the Mohawks pulled out all the stops running no huddle keeping the Vikes on their toes. They stepped up stuffing the Mohawks many times and only allowing a single touchdown in what must have been 25 plays . In the 2nd Series the Vikes scored a TD, and the Defence held strong once again, shutting out the Mohawks. Final score CHHS-21-MHHS 7.
In the final game the Vikes took on Perenially Ranked TIer 1 Powerhouse LCI from Lethbridge. The boys dug deep and managed a score on a Sydney Binding run after a gutsy scramble by Dubinski. The D played solid again but unfortunately a broken play and great individual run by the LCI runningback for a long scamper tied the game. In the 2nd series the Vikes managed a score when rookie reciever Nick Vandersloot turned a 10 yard catch into a 40 yard scamper after a thundering block by SB Garrett Stubbs.Greg Hannah also hauled in another TD pass.
Final score Vikings 21- LCI- 7
There were many positives , and this is the most successful spring camp the Vikes have had in several seasons scoring 7 TD's and only surrendering 2, this against much larger schools, MHHS and McCoy/Eagle Butte being Tier 2 (750-1250) and LCI Tier 1 (over 1250 students). Some players that really stepped up today were Ashton Buhler and rookie Harrison Stubbs at DE's. LB's Garrett Stubbs and Greg Hannah and the entire Secondary who played great in an area that had been the Vikes Defensive weakness last season knocking down passes, stripping receivers, and intercepting the ball 3 times.
The offensive line looked well protecting Dubinski who himself looked poised to lead the Vikes back to the quest for RFC supremacy, Several receivers made great catches, including Sam Poole, Clayton Brandt, Greg Hannah, Bryan Walker , Nick Vandersloot and Matt McKinnon.
The Vikes look forward to getting back to preparing for the upcoming season with their BFS and Speed programs resuming on M-W -F's after school, and hopefully will change in their brand new locker room that should be ready in time for the 2009 Season!! http://www.medicinehatnews.com/content/view/98552/110/
