The freshman from Randallstown, Md., was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for Lincoln's three games during the span of Jan. 2-8. She averaged 9.7 points and totaled 10 rebounds and five steals.

 â€œThey're turning the corner and understanding the game,” interim head coach Kisha Middleton said. “It's progress and the more we get acknowledged, the better it is for the girls and the program. They'll turn into big awards. Now that we're getting awards, let's start winning some games.”

Johnson emerged as a scorer, tallying her first two games in double digits including a season-high 14 against the Lady Shock of Washington Adventist. She also set new individual marks in that game with rebounds (six) and steals (four). Lincoln won that game, 78-51, Lincoln's first win of more than 15 points since the season opener of the 2008-09 season.

She then followed that up with a 13-point, three-assist night in the CIAA opener against Saint Augustine's College on Thursday.

“We still have the mindset that we can do anything based on that win over Washington Adventist,” she said. “All we have to do is limit our turnovers and box out on rebounds , just the small things. When we earned that win, that's what really turned us up that we can beat anybody in our conference.”

For the season, she is fifth on the Lady Lions in points per game (6.7) and assists (16). She becomes Lincoln's first CIAA Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week recipient.

Scheduling note

With impending inclement weather set to hinder much of the South, Monday night's basketball doubleheader against Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C. has been postponed to Tuesday. The women's game begins at 2 p.m. with the men to follow afterward.
