The Joel Barlow High hockey team picked a good night to give recognition to its senior players when it hosted Shepaug last week.

Prior to the game, the Falcons honored Adam Jacobs, Ryan McGowen, Gordon Loery, Paul Camomilli, Sean Foley, and Sam Weber as well as late teammate Rob Smuniewski, whose jersey was hung on the bench during the game.

The Falcons then went to work on the ice. In one of their best offensive as well as defensive efforts of the season they outskated the competition in an 8-1 victory at the Danbury Ice Arena.

It did not take the Falcons long to get on the board. Early in the first, McGowen assisted Paul Camomilli on the senior to senior connection for the first goal of the game.

Chris Van Camp scored his first high school goal to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead with Jack Cartafalsa and Patrick Mimms on the assist. Mimms would fire in two more from the point in the first period, one assisted by Mike Mattson.

The second period was all Barlow as the home team netted four more goals. Cartafalsa lit the lamp twice early in the second.

Soon after, Mattson put another two goals up on the board for the Falcons. Assists on the goals came from Van Camp, McGowen, Mimms, Justin MacDougall, Camomilli, and Andrew Mallozzi.

Gordon Loery checked out of the net with three saves on the night. Foley took Loery€™s place and made four saves of his own, letting only one slip through the legs for Shepaug€™s first goal.

Barlow, now 4-7, takes on Newtown on Saturday at 4:20 p.m. and faces Brookfield/Bethel/Danbury on Wednesday at 5:30, also in Danbury.
