Oregon Ducks Update
3/12/2007

Coach Ashley,

Congratulations on South Anchorage winning another State title and having the Alaska high school player of the year again this season. It must have been a rewarding season for the players, parents and coaching staff!

The Oregon Ducks didn't finish the season quite as successfully but still had another strong year with a record of 23-6.  For the second straight year, Oregon lost to USC in the PAC 8 Championship game ( overtime both times). However, the Ducks were selected for the ACHA Western regional tournament for the first time ever. Oregon took heavily favored San Jose State to overtime before losing 3-2. San Jose State ended up being one of the West region's representative to the national tournament this past weekend.

Sam Cehula finished the season strong and played really well in the tournament games. He ended up 6th in regular season scoring and led the team in assists (and penalty minutes).

Oregon will only lose 1 senior for next season and should be strong again. We are working to upgrade the schedule and play more games against the top teams in the West.

We haven't heard that any of your players are heading to Oregon next year although we do have at least one Alaska high school defenseman that is visiting Eugene next week.

We really appreciate our recruit information and updates being posted on your team's website and any information that you can provide to your players and families about the option of attending school and playing hockey at Oregon. We will lose several top forwards and a defenseman after next season so will be looking to reload with quality student athletes.

Enjoy the off-season and I look forward to being in touch with you next fall.

Regards,

Ken Gibb
