Coach Comments and Philosophy:  Coach Belde stated he wanted to clear the air as there has been some rumbling around the rink with regards to Coach Shasby being an All Star coach.  Coach Belde will be making final decisions on teams.    He will be looking at their level of play and their work ethic as well as behavior on and off the ice.  He has high expectations on and off the ice and in school.  Kids are expected to be polite before and after games.  Locker rooms must be cleaned after each practice otherwise they will skate.

Coach Belde stated he is up front and to the point.  Sometimes this can be construed as “blunt” but he is being honest without hurting their feelings with the kids.  He will also be honest with parents.

Coach Belde explained his philosophy regarding both the JV and Varsity programs at South.  His job is to develop kids so they can play at the varsity level.  Last year there were initially four (4) freshman at the start of the season and five (5) by the end of the season.  There are opportunities this season for the younger players to play on varsity.  There are 12 JV spots and about 10 are fighting for the JV/Varsity window.  He will look at attitude, aggressiveness and not afraid to get physical as well as their offensive and defensive capabilities.

Player Responsibilities:

  • Expected to arrive an hour and 15 minutes early for Varsity games and one hour prior to JV games.
  • If you do not attend school or miss a practice you will not play in game.
  • If something comes up where players will be absent, players must notify Coach Belde via email or text as far enough in advance.
  • Great behavior on/off ice
  • Code of Conduct for school behavior/Locker Room

Parent Responsibilities:

  • 24 hour rule – If there is a problem or concern, let Coach Belde know via email and allow 24 hours so everyone has chance to relax and think about what is going on.  Its best as emotions will not be involved and you could have a different perspective.
  • Bleacher Behavior – Parents and spectators are encouraged to be examples for the players and yelling at refs will not be tolerated.
  • All correspondence will be provided via email.  An updated parent contact list was obtained.
  • Religion, School and Family come before hockey.

Parent Involvement:

  • $50.00 Booster Club Membership per family payable to SAHS Booster Club
  • $300.00 sponsorship per player is required.  Business card advertisement sponsor poster.  The sponsor letter is on website.  This is due before 11/5/11 to ensure the poster is printed timely.

  • If there are parents with financial hardships, please see Coach Belde.

  • Kim Onstott and Nancy DesLauriers volunteered to head up the End of Season Banquet.

  • Janet Klatt is Chair for Senior Night.

  • Travel to games at the Mac Center/Eagle River is mandatory on the bus.  If a parent wants to go out to the game and bring their son home they will be required to sign their son out with the Coach.
  • MANDATORY Potluck will be held 10/25/11 at South High School @ 6:00pm common area.  TNT Rayville Sports will be there with samples of clothing items.  If you would like to place an order please bring your checkbook with you!  Details on potluck food - Please see website for details.
  • South High Clothing will be available for purchase at the Potluck as well as online via the website.
  • Track Suits will be required and Hoody’s and Polo shirts are recommended.  T-shirts, hats, etc. are optional.  Captains will chose what the team will wear to school on game days.  **SEE BELOW**
  • Hockey Bags and Jerseys will be assigned to each player.
  • Anonymous sponsor for the purchase of new gloves.  It will be decided if gloves will be re-issued each year.

**We recommend that every player order a South hoody and polo.  There will be team functions that they may all wear them to.  They also will occasionally wear the polo with black slacks and black shoes to school on game days instead of shirts and ties.  Track suits are required and are paid for by the booster club IF you are a freshman OR new to the team.  All returning players that need a new one are responsible for paying for their own, that cost is $90.00.
