South retains softball crown with win over East
The South Wolverines disposed of East twice on Saturday to keep their state high school softball championship.
South capped an undefeated season by beating East 16-12 in the championship game at South Davis Field. The win
came a couple of hours after the Wolverines beat East 5-1 to send the T-birds to the loser's bracket.
East fought back with a 13-4 romp over Dimond to earn another shot at South, but again the Wolverines prevailed.
Pitcher Danni Desjarlais led South with five strikeouts in seven innings and added four RBIs at the plate. Tristan Tolan
went 4 for 5 with four runs and three RBIs.
South finished its season with a 29-0 record.
East received four runs and five RBIs from Daisey Page, who also hammered a home run.
In the small-school tournament, Thunder Mountain repeated as state champion with a 17-6 win over Juneau in a
rematch of last year's title game.
