BRIGHTON — Pinckney won a district girls soccer game for the first time in seven years with a 3-2 overtime victory over Milford in the semifinal round Wednesday at Sloan Field.

Annabelle Sharp scored on a header off a corner kick by Cassandra Bonifas for the winning goal.

Ashlyn Norris set up Pinckney's first goal by Allison Thelen and scored off a pass from Brianna Stevens.

Pinckney's last district victory was a 2-0 decision over Howell in 2011. The Pirates played one player short because of a red card that was issued late in the second half.

"Our team was absolutely relentless," Pinckney coach Tom Greeley said. "We wouldn't give up. Despite bad weather, a tough opponent and we went down to 10 men, despite all that and playing into overtime, we found a way to win. The players are thrilled just having the chance to play for the district championship."

Pinckney (13-4-1) will play Hartland (13-6-2) for the district championship at 6 p.m. Friday at Sloan Field.

The Pinckney Pirates are #2 in Districts

On June 1, 2018, the PHS Girls Soccer team fell to Hartland in a tough and physical contest at Sloan Field. The match was the finals for D1 Districts that would see one team go through to the Regional Contest the following week. The Pirates currently rank 789 nationally, 76th in the State of Michigan, and 37th in Division one. At the same time, this match is first Division title match for the PHS Pirates and they finish the season with a 13-5-1 overall record.
