The Loyola Cubs, carrying it's most powerful team in years with 9 seniors, overpowered the Eagles in their most physical match of the season. Loosing both leading scorers no.3 Ryan Darling, and 17th ranked HS Lax player in the west, no.31 Grayson Phillips, didn't help the Eagles. G. Phillips left the game in warm-ups with back spasms. Unable to score until the 5th minute of the 2nd Quarter when Tommy Evans put one in for the Eagles, Loyola scored 4 unanswered points to lead things off. Loosing Ryan Darling, OP's 2nd leading scorer to a vicious head butt, helped Loyola to continue it's dominance unanswered with 4 more points and no offense from the Eagles until Trevor Goehring was able to add another point for the Eagles assisted by Ryan Weise in the 11th minute of the 3rd period. The heavy damage hit Oak Park in the 3rd period with 5 goals coming from Loyola while trying to once again recover from missing players. Tommy Evans added Oak Park's last point in the 3rd minute of the last period. Grayson Phillips did enter the game late in the 3rd period and was affective in helping OP to move the ball, but wasn't able to get a rhythm going until it was too late. With the only other point coming from Loyola 5 minutes in, Oak Parks defense worked hard to keep the opposition to 10 points with 7.5 minutes to play. Caspari, Albers and Connor Phillips played admirably. With a heavily weakened offense Oak Park could not keep up with the experienced and well disciplined Loyola Cubs squad. As a final 'take-home-salt-in-the-wound-souvenir', Ryan Weise was presented with a broken finger attempting to score in the final minutes. Max Luchs saved 11 of 23 shots allowing 10 goals. Suffering from a lack of depth, overcoming such last minute setbacks is a lot to demand of such a young squad. With over a week off to recover, Oak Park should be ready Saturday the 18th to face 49th place St. John Bosco (2-8).
