Former junior college player, Erin Hagen, has been hired as the new Head Volleyball Coach at Brunswick Community College. Coach Hagen began her coaching career in middle school volleyball in 2003 and was a volunteer assistant for Sterling High School’s volleyball program in 2004 in Illinois. From 2005-2011, she was the head freshman coach and social studies teacher at Sterling High School. The freshman team won the conference in her last three seasons at Sterling and several members of those teams went on to play for successful varsity teams. Coach Hagen and the staff at Sterling worked to build a winning volleyball tradition at SHS. Program wide, the teams are now consistently at the top of their conference and regularly competing for regional titles each season.
Coach Hagen grew up in Sterling, IL and was a three-sport athlete in volleyball, basketball, and softball at Sterling High School. She earned all-conference honors in volleyball and softball as well as academic all-conference honors in both her junior and senior seasons. Hagen continued her playing career at Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, IL, playing volleyball and softball, and serving as captain in both sports during her sophomore seasons. She continued playing on several intramural teams at Illinois State University and graduated in 2003 with a degree in History Education. She received her master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the American College of Education in 2010.
Coach Hagen relocated to Brunswick County in June of 2012 and currently serves as the Brunswick County Teen Court Director.
