The Colorado Kings Return to China
The Colorado Kings will start their 4th season in the ABA by returning to Beijing this October for a 10-game month-long tour in China. And they’re playing to win it all this year.
During the last tour in December of 2011, The Kings served the Beijing Aoeshen Eagles their first loss in six years. Although the Eagles hated the loss, thousands of avid basketball fans there marveled at the skills of guard Corey Campbell, who averaged 38 points per game, small forward and West Virginia alum Ryan McBride, who propelled the squad's potent offense with his barrage of buckets, and towering center Marcus King-Stockton who racked up double-doubles. Each game was jammed packed with thousands of fans who never left their seats until the game was over, not even to grab concessions or to take a bathroom break.
Over the past four years, The Colorado Kings have captured the attention of even the most ardent NBA fans all over the world. Established in 2010, the Colorado Kings’ first season as ABA team was marked by an outstanding record of 24-1 and a trip to the Elite 8. Year two was punctuated with an ABA record of 32 wins in a row and a trip to the Sweet 16. During year three, the Colorado Kings earned a spot in the Final Four. Their starting their fourth season in the league with an overall franchise record of 77 wins and only 7 losses.
Even during the NBA lockout in 2011, Andre Miller and his All-Stars couldn’t defeat the Colorado Kings -- and neither could Jamar Brown, Mo Charlo, Tyler Smith, and Mike Bugs.
American basketball has gained traction and a huge following in the world’s most populous country with Chinese-born NBA talent such as Xio Ming and Yi Jianlian representing their motherland, gaining worldwide respect and bringing a love for the game back home. If the last tour was any indication, the Colorado Kings are going to enjoy celebrity status in China by bringing home amazing wins against their international affiliate.
