The Brunswick Community College Lady Dolphins won in a big way last evening against the visiting Bulldogs of Pitt Community College.  Looking for their first win of the season, the Dolphins won in four sets with scores of 17-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-21.  After a slow start for BCC in the first set with only 4 kills off of 9 attempts, freshman Amber Goodwin came out to dominate in the second set with 4 kills of her own, and also chalked up 3 digs and 2 aces.  Freshman Holly Fulford went on a serving run to put the Dolphins up 12-7.  Pitt went on a run of their own and tied the game at 23 after being down 17-23.  Sophomore Crystal Hicks, an NJCAA Top Returning Attacker according the NJCAA Media Guide, finished the set to win 25-23.

In the third set, the Dolphins couldn't get anything started and began the game down 0-6.  After a timeout by BCC, the Dolphins quickly responded and slowly closed the gap.  Crystal Hicks went on serving run after being down 6-10, and propelled the Dolphins to a 14-12 lead.  After several side-outs and the game tied at 18, Holly Fulford went on a serving run of her own to put the Dolphins ahead 22-18 leading to the set win.  Goodwin, Hicks and freshman Reyna McHetz played aggressively at the net contributing 11 kills combined, while freshman middle blocker Katrina Brown had 2 blocks and 4 digs.

In a close fourth set, the Dolphins held onto the lead with Sophomore Haley Miller, new to the setting position due to an injured Alex Wickel, setting up the offense for a team combined 12 kills and a team attack percentage of .526.  Miller scored a match high 32 assists.  Amber Goodwin finished with 12 kills (.472), 4 aces, 15 digs, and 2 blocks.  Reyna McHetz had 11 kills (.347), 2 aces and 6 blocks.  Crystal Hicks had 9 kills (.333), 2 aces, 14 digs, and 3 blocks.  Katrina Brown had 3 kills and 5 blocks, and Holly Fulford had 2 aces, and 8 digs.

Next up for the Dolphins is a trip to Kinston on Saturday for a tri-match with Lenoir Community College and Catawba Valley CC, before finishing the regular season next Wednesday, at Pitt CC.
