No. 4 Brunswick 73, No. 5 Cape Fear 62

Fourth-seeded Brunswick Community College earned a hard-fought 73-62 victory over No. 5 seed Cape Fear Community College during the quarterfinal round of the Region X, Division 2 women’s basketball tournament Friday at Patrick Henry Community College.

Shanita Hampton led BCC with 20 points, while Cape Fear’s Porsha Buchanan paced all scorers with 21 in a losing effort.

The game was close during the first half, with multiple ties, and BCC led 34-31 at intermission. The Lady Dolphins pushed out to a more comfortable lead that hovered around eight points early in the second half and held off the Lady Sea Devils down the stretch.

With the win, BCC advances to play Saturday in the programs first appearance in the conference semifinals at 1 p.m. against No. 1 Catawba Valley.
