It's official. The Watertown Wizards and seven other members have officially formed the PGCBL (Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League).
Watertown along with Albany, Amsterdam, Cooperstown, Elmira, Glens Falls, Mohawk Valley and the newest franchise Newark Pilots are excited to be a part of what this group believes will be one of the top college summer leagues in the country. And this group does not think it will take very long.
"This relationship should enhance both the league and our organization," said Jerry Ford Perfect Game president. "With all the talented high school players we see, and establish relationships with each year, our job revolves around recruiting and the major league draft. We now have an avenue to stay involved with a lot of these players once they are in college by helping place them in a high quality summer league."
"We are confident that with our involvement, along with some strong, established communities in upstate New York, and seasoned baseball operaters in place to run the clubs, we will quickly establish the PGCBL as one of the nations best within two or three years. We are very excited about this new association."
Added Watertown CEO Paul Simmons, "To say we are excited to be involved with Perfect Game and the new league would be a huge understatement. Essentially, what this means for our fans is more games, better players and an improved baseball experience for everyone for the upcoming summers at the Duffy Fairgrounds. We have been looking for this step to take place for a while now and we couldn't be happier with these results and new partnerships."
Watertown, NYCBL league attendance leaders in 6 of the last 7 seasons, will be scheduled to open play in early June. An official 49-52 game scheduled will be released in the very near future. For season tickets, contact the Wizards at 1-315-212-4096 or by email at watertownwizards@hotmail.com.
