'94 Willem Nong-Lambert Committed to Western Michigan

Former Minnesota Mavericks '94 Willem Nong-Lambert has committed to Western Michigan University, beginning in the 2014-2015 season!

 

The Urbandale, Iowa native is in his first season of Junior A hockey, with the Des Moines Buccaneers, and is currently tied for the team lead in goals with 12 and is third in assists with 20. Acquired in a trade with the Green Bay Gamblers on October 11th, Nong-Lambert registered a goal in seven of his first 11 games including a streak of six straight games from November 8-November 21. With the plan for Nong-Lambert to start at Western Michigan in 2014, he is expected to remain with the Des Moines Buccaneers' next season.

 

Along with being a current Buccaneer, Nong-Lambert is also an alum of the Des Moines Capitals' high school program based out of Buccaneer Arena. He skated locally in the Des Moines Youth Hockey system until joining the Capitals and then advancing to the Russell Stover midget program in Kansas City two years ago. Western Michigan plays in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association and are coached by former NHL head coach Andy Murray. The Broncos are 16-6-4 this season and are coming off a season where they were league champions and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
