Summer League Starts off with Oregon City Team Camp!
June is just about here and that means the start of summer basketball! Excitment abounds as this year we will field varsity, JV and C teams that will compete throughout the month. Highlights include team camps at Gonzaga University and University of Washington as well as four tournaments played in the greater metro area. Here's to a successful summer season!
Camas finishes with program sweep over Battleground
League play ended with all three girls basketball teams finishing with wins. The C team beat previously unbeaten Battleground to finish league play 8-2! JV also won and ended league with a 7-3 mark. Finally, the varsity rallied from an eight point third quarter deficit to win and finish 8-2 in league play. Congratulations to all of the girls in the program for an overall 23-7 league record! Varsity will play Monday night at Skyview at 5:30 for the district championship. Go Papermakers!
Camas Clinches Playoff for Fifth Straight Year
Great defense led the way as the Camas High School girls basketball team clinched a playoff birth for the fifth straight year. Entering the fourth quarter with a one point lead the Papermakers held Union to three points in the final stanza en route to a 37-30 win. Next up is Heritage on Monday night, followed by Battleground on Wednesday. Great job Girls!
Triple triple for Girls Basketball on Hoops for Pink Night
The girls basketball program recorded their third straight program sweep. The program also won off the court as they raised money for breast cancer research and honored those who have been impacted by the disease. Overall, it was a great night. The C team dominated Heritage as Brynn Jackson led with 18 points. Meanwhile, the JV had a solid victory led by Stephanie Knight. Finally, the varsity had another strong defensive outing in a 62-20 win. Great job!
Another program sweep vs rival Union
The varsity, JV and C teams all dominated the competition on Tuesday against rival union. The C team got 13 points from Alivia Pence and 11 points from Brynn Johnson as solid all-around team play led to a 50-33 victory. The JV team gutted out a 44-42 win behind the 12 points of Monica Mendez. Noora Monghate added 9. The varsity completed the night by playing great defense, earning a 52-35 victory. Nikki Corbett had 24 points and 15 rebounds. Meanwhile Brenna Khaw added 12 points and 7 rebounds. Great job Papermakers!
Papermakers sweep Evergreen
Varsity, JV and C all won on Friday night. Nikki Corbett had 21 points and Brenna Khaw had 9 assists in the league victory. Defense again was the key as the Papermakers held their opponent to 29 points on the night in the 54-29 victory. Next up is Union on Tuesday. Game time is 7:00 at Union.
Papermakers Get Program Sweep over Hockinson
All three teams got wins on Friday night as the program finished league on the upswing with three straight program sweeps heading into league play on Tuesday night. After getting into foul trouble and struggling with their shooting in the first half the varsity quickly erased a 5 point halftime deficit en route to 56-38 win. Great defense turned the tide, and Nikki Corbett and Brenna Khaw had monster performances in the win. Khaw recorded 12 assists with a mere one turnover and Corbett scored 30 of her career high 32 points in the second half. Next up is the league opener on Tuesday night against the defending league champion Skyview Storm. Game time is 7:00 at Skyview.
Another Strong Outing
The Papermakers held Fort Vancouver to ten points en route to a 51-10 victory. Nikkie Corbett led the way with 15 points, while Rachel Gray and Rachel Rice chipped in 8 each. Next up is Friday at Hockinson before starting league play on Tuesday at Skyview.
Papermakers dominate from start to finish
Near by Washougal came into town on Friday night and the Papermakers responded with a emphatic 68-28 win. Nikki Corbett led the way with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Brenna Khaw added 12 points and 7 assists, while Rachel Rice contributed 14 points. Next up is Fort Vancouver at home on Monday night!
Turnovers doom Papermakers
Turnover were the down fall of the Papermakers in a 67-52 loss to the Prairie Falcons on Saturday night. Nikki Corbett dominated with 26 points and 15 rebounds while Meghan Finely and Brenna Khaw chipped in 9 and 8 points respectfully.
Program Sweep on Thursday Night as Khaw Returns
It was a program sweep for the Papermakers on Monday as the C team started off with a dominant win, followed by the JV controlling the game from start to finish and ending with the varsity handing Hudson's Bay a 62-47 loss. The game was marked by the return to the court of Brenna Khaw, playing her first game since last season after injuring her knee in the spring. Junior Nikki Corbett had a monster game with 25 points and 13 rebounds to lead the way. Next up is at Prairie on Saturday night with JV and C playing at 5:30 followed by the varsity at 7:00. Growing Pains continue in close loss to Jesuit
Once again the Papermakers battled and competed with a very strong 6A team from Oregon and once again they came up a bit short. With Camas leading at halftime and then midway through the fourth quarter, Jesuit pulled away late for a 51-45 win. The loss was not for lack of effort or determination, but little things that the team needs to learn as they gain experience. Nikki Corbett led all players with 22 points. Next up is Sherwood on Monday night at 5:30 at home.
Papermakers Battle, but come up Short at Southridge
Battling foul trouble throughout the Papermakers battled gamely against Southridge of Oregon, but ultimately came up short by a 50-46 margin. The team chipped away at a 12 point halftime deficit and was within three late in the game before a Southridge FT put the game away. Nikki Corbett led the way with 18 points and 13 rebounds despite limited playing time due to foul trouble. Next up is another challenging road game at Jesuit on Friday.
Girls Bounce Back to Grab First Win
After losing on Tuesday to Mark Morris, the Papermakers bounced back with a 40-34 win over Mt. View at home. After struggling throughout the first three quarters, the team responded with a 20 point 4th quarter to seal the victory. Freshman Meghan Finley led the way with 11 points and 8 rebounds, junior Nikki Corbett added 9 points and 10 rebounds and senior Rachel Rice chipped in 8 points and 6 rebounds. great job girls! Next up is Southridge of Beaverton on Wednesday.
Papermakers Drop Opener to Mark Morris
The Camas Papermakers season started roughly with a 60-40 loss to defending 2A state champion Mark Morris. Nikki Corbett led Camas with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Next up, is Mt. View at home on Monday night!
Here We Go- Season Starts Tuesday!
Well the season is upon us already! The Camas High School Girls Basketball program will kick off its season on Tuesday, December 3rd against the defending 2A state champion Mark Morris Monarchs. JV and C games begin at 5:30 with the varsity game following at 7:00. Hope you can come join us for opening night!
Tryout Information
Camas Girls Basketball tryouts will be Monday, November 18th and Tuesday, November 19th from 3:10-5:30. Teams will be announced by Wednesday, November 20th. Please make sure to get cleared well before then. You will need to get the following done in order to try out:
-Current physical that is good for two years from the date of the exam
-A concussion form
-A medical emergency form
-ASB Card and athletic fee must be paid before first practice
All of the above must be turned in to the athletic office! Do not wait until the last minute- be proactive and take care of things now!
