SEASON ENDS FOR PATRIOTS
3/13/2012

The Patriots’ season came to a close Monday evening.  Portsmouth lost 5-1 to the Prout Crusaders in Game 3 of the semi-final round of the D-II State Championships.  The deciding game of the best two out of three series was played at the University of Rhode Island Boss Arena before a large and excited crowd from both schools.  By winning, Prout advances to the finals to play Coventry for the State Championship.

Prout scored one goal in each of the first two periods.  The Crusaders added three more tallies in the third period, two of which came on power plays.  The Patriots lone goal was notched in the third period by Steve Souza, assisted by Andrew Finnegan and Myles Arkins.

Portsmouth had two power plays in the game but was unable to get the puck past the Crusaders goal tender, Zane Morgan, with the man advantage.  The Patriots surrendered two goals on two penalty kill situations.  Prout outshot Portsmouth in the contest 37-33.  Matt Maggiacomo in the net for the Patriots had 32 saves.

Special thanks to all the families, friends, and fans of Patriots hockey who provided such outstanding support throughout the team’s campaign.  We hope to see you all again next season.

To the seniors who finished their Portsmouth High School Hockey careers last night: Alec Schenck, Andrew Finnegan, Mike Maggiacomo, Pat Spero, Nick Martens, Matt Maggiacomo, and Steve Souza.  Congratulations on a fine season; good luck and best wishes for the future.

For all the other players on the team, really nice job, and thanks for an entertaining season.  We will look forward to seeing  you all back on the squad for the 2012-13 season, and eagerly anticipate your team successes and personal accomplishments as you continue your high school hockey careers.
