PATRIOTS FALL TO ISLANDERS AGAIN
2/19/2013

The Middletown Islanders extended their unbeaten streak over Portsmouth to three years in a holiday matinee game at the Abbey Monday afternoon.  For the second time in four days, the Patriots were shut out by the Islanders, this time 4-0, in what was an important Central Division game for the two playoff contenders.

The Islanders dominated the play right from the first faceoff.  They beat the Patriots to the puck, generally controlled the play, and kept Portsmouth from mounting any consistent offense.  Middletown outshot the Patriots 30-16 in the contest, scoring two goals in the first period and one each in the second and third periods.  Ben Hood in the net for the Patriots made 26 saves.

The Patriots had four power play opportunities in the game, including a long five on three advantage, but were unable to score on any of their attempts with the extra skaters.  Portsmouth skated shorthanded five times while players were in the penalty box, giving up one goal while on the penalty kill.

Portsmouth plays again this Friday, February 22 at 8:00 PM at Lynch Arena.  The team will face the league leading, and currently undefeated, Lincoln Lions.  This will be a challenging game for the Patriots as they continue their quest for a playoff berth.  Make your plans now to head over to Pawtucket Friday evening to watch the game.  You will see an exciting contest and the squad will appreciate your support.  See you at the rink.
