Lady Dolphins End Season
in Thriller Loss to #1 Catawba Valley
3-11-13
Top-seeded Catawba Valley Community College won its second close game in as many days, defeating No. 4-seed Brunswick Community College 54-51 during Saturday’s Region X, Division 2 semifinals at Patrick Henry Community College’s Stone Hall. Though Brunswick led 31-23 at halftime, CVCC opened the second stanza in a trapping defense and quickly closed the gap, tying the game at 31 with 18:41 remaining in the contest.
BCC committed six fouls in the first five minutes of the second half, and CVCC reached the double-bonus with more than 10 minutes still to go in the game. Even so, it was a one-possession contest for the final 19 minutes. Syerra Troutman paced BCC with 14 points.
Louisburg College, the #2 seed, defeated Catawba Valley in the championship game 73-55, to advance to the National Championship in Peoria, IL, on March 19.
Syerra Troutman, a sophomore from Knightdale, NC, was named First Team All-Region.
The Lady Dolphins finished the season at 10-18 overall, and 6-10 in conference play.
