PATRIOTS LOSING STREAK EXTENDED
2/2/2014

Portsmouth’s losing streak extended to eight games in league play and ten games overall after the team’s loss to the East Greenwich Avengers Saturday night at the URI Boss Arena.  Kyle Alvanas and Evan Alvanas each had a goal and an assist for the Patriots in the first period.  Their tallies enabled the team to keep pace with the Avengers who rang up two goals of their own before the first intermission.  But Portsmouth’s early efforts proved not to be enough as East Greenwich went on to add an unanswered goal in the second period and another in the third period to take the game by a score of 4-2.

The Patriots outshot the Avengers 31- 18 in the contest.  Ben Hood, with the goaltending duty for Portsmouth, had 14 saves on the night and picked up the loss.  The Patriots had three power play opportunities in the game, but were unable to produce a goal with the man advantage.  The team surrendered one goal to the Avengers in four penalty kill situations.

In addition to the assists by the Alvanas brothers on each other’s goals, defenseman Frankie Harnedy was also credited with assisting on the goal by Evan Alvanas.

The Patriots will face off with the Toll Gate Titans next Friday, February 7, at 7:30 pm.  That game will be at the Benny Mageira Ice Rink at the West Warwick Civic Center.  Portsmouth will be skating as the “home” team, as the squad looks to end its slide and return to the win column.  Head over to the game and support the Patriots.  See you at the rink.
