Portsmouth’s two game winning streak was cut short Friday evening by the North Smithfield Northmen. In the only meeting scheduled between the two teams this season, the Northmen claimed a 3-0 victory over the Patriots in the game played at the Levy Ice Center. The loss was the fourth time Portsmouth has been shut out this season.
North Smithfield outshot Portsmouth in the contest, 38-18. Ben Hood, in goal for the Patriots, had 35 saves and was tagged with the loss.
The loss mathematically eliminated the Patriots from the post-season playoffs. It is the second campaign in two years that will end with Portsmouth’s last regular-season game.
Portsmouth’s next game is tonight at the Benny Mageira Ice Rink at the West Warwick Civic Center. The Patriots opponent will be the Rogers Vikings. Game time is 6:00 pm. With a major snow storm in the forecast for later today and this evening, it is likely that the game will be postponed.
