Cross Country Season Kickoff – Important Information for Athletes & Parents
We have officially wrapped up our summer training, and everyone is excited to begin the Cross Country season! Our athletes have put in eight weeks of intensive training and hundreds of miles, and they are fit, prepared, and ready to compete against other schools.
This week marks the transition from summer training to the school-year Cross Country schedule, with practices taking place in the afternoons. We have a very busy first week, so please take a moment to review the important information below.
MANDATORY PRACTICE & ATTENDANCE
Starting Tuesday, August 18, attendance at Cross Country practice is mandatory.
Cross Country is a class at NHS, so attendance is treated like any other course for high school credit. Beginning August 18, all absences must be cleared through the school attendance office by a parent.
Daily practice: 3:00–6:00 p.m.
Saturday practice: Required
Attendance will be taken at every practice.
Missed practices may result in an athlete being held out of upcoming competitions.
Continued attendance issues may also affect an athlete's grade or ability to remain on the team.
If your athlete is going to be part of the Cross Country team, please help them clear their schedule and make the commitment necessary to be successful this season.
MONDAY, AUGUST 17
There will be NO practice on Monday.
Please use the day to enjoy some family time and prepare for the start of the school year.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 18
Our first afternoon practice following a full school day!
Athletes should be prepared to transition directly from the school day into practice. Please plan accordingly for transportation, hydration, nutrition, and the remainder of the afternoon.
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 19
PARENT ATHLETICS POLICY MEETING 6pm
Parents should attend to learn all about NHS athletics policy, grading and attendance.
FIRST COMPETITION – SATURDAY AUGUST 22
We will have our first competition of the season this Saturday against:
University High School
Segerstrom High School
Woodbridge High School
Athletes selected to compete will be those who have participated in summer training, demonstrated the appropriate level of fitness, maintained consistent attendance, and remain in good standing with the team.
We are excited to get the season underway and look forward to seeing all of our athletes continue the hard work they put in over the summer.
Thank you to our athletes and families for your commitment and support. Have a great first week of school, and let's have a great XC season!
