Greetings My Sun-Tanned Gorilla Brethren,
Hope you all had a wonderful Spring-Summer with whatever you have to do in order to distract from not having Gorilla hockey all that time.
I am happy to announce that the 42nd edition of the Gitlers Gorillas will be playing this Fall at the Icehouse and remain in all likelyhood in Div 5 meaning our games will be on Tuesday.
2014-15 SCHEDULE - The season will start the week of Sun. Oct 12 every Tuesday with starting usually somewhere between 9 - 11 PM. Again the season will consist of 16 regular season game and, as the custom, we are already guaranteed a playoff spot. We MAY have a game the first week (12/14) but the Icehouse usually has scheduling issues the first 2 months so expect some weeks off through Thanksgiving once the schedule is distributed.
WHO'S IN?? - Please let me know if you are able and willing to play this season. Please respond either way. Don't make me have to hunt you down. My hope is we can field a respectable roster that can compete at the competitive Div 5 level. Once I have an idea as to the base roster we will see if we have to add new names to the roster so if you have anyone worthy of donning the GREEN and WHITE, let me know as well.
ALERT - I heard from sniper Kevin Connell (2011-2012). Good News!!!! He is looking to join us full-time this year
PAYMENT SCHEDULE - Due to another slight increase from Icehouse and the fact we ran at a deficit last year, I'm forced to make a change to the per game cost from $30 to $35. The full season charge of $450 will remain in effect and is a good deal at a price per game and for those who want guaranteed ice time every week.
COACH IRA UPDATE - Since Ira returned home about 3 weeks ago he and Mary Jo continue to adapt to his new environment considering his current physical limitations. When the homecoming happened everyone knew it would be a challenge. Ira and Mary Jo have part-time home care and on-site PT but the daily requirements, whether it be for simple task or the daily exercise, are somewhat daunting. Ira has a positive attitude not only for his recovery but also for the upcoming Gorilla season. Although it may be a imminent, one of his motivations is to get back to the Icehouse for our games. Ira would love to hear from you. Right now the only way is to call
(212-737-4561) or visit (14 E. 80th Street, between Madison and 5th Ave in Manhattan).
FUTURE UPDATES - The Icehouse entry deadline is Sept 25. I hope to hear from ALL of you before that time. Unfortunately, expect the schedule not to be ready until the week of Oct 5th. Meanwhile you can follow the Gorilla on their web site (
www.gitlersgorillas.com - password 'gitgo') or at the Icehouse web site (
www.icehousenj.com)
Looking forward to hearing back from EVERYONE and to a great season.
SEE YOU ALL REAL SOON
