Portsmouth held its annual Seniors Recognition Ceremony before its game with North Smithfield Friday evening the Abbey. The event, which traditionally takes place at the last regular season home game on the teams’ home ice, celebrates the contributions of the senior Patriots to the team during their years at Portsmouth High School. The ceremony also honors the senior’s parents for their tremendous support of their players over the years. Without the enduring efforts of their parents, none of the seniors would be on the ice today.
This season there are five members of the Class of 2015 on the team: Student Manager Lauren Borg, and players Matt Alexander, Zach Goldman, Frankie Harnedy, and Kevin Manning. As each senior was introduced, they presented their mothers with a bouquet of flowers, and had photographs taken with their families on the ice.
Following the introduction of the Portsmouth seniors, the team honored another Patriots hockey tradition by introducing the seniors from the visiting team. The squad has always believed that the celebration is best when all the seniors on the ice are included in the ceremony.
Capping the event, Portsmouth senior Margeaux Sippell beautifully sang the National Anthem before the opening faceoff of the game.
After the completion of the game, the entire team, parents, and supporters of Patriots hockey met at West Main Pizza for a dinner party sponsored by the Patriots Hockey Boosters. At the party each senior was presented with a framed picture of themselves in action on the ice, and individual posters of themselves containing the congratulatory signatures of their teammates.
