Despite their loss to North Smithfield last night, the Patriots clinched their first playoff berth in three years when PSW defeated Toll Gate earlier in the evening. Portsmouth is currently in seventh place in the Division-2 standings with the top eight teams due to enter the playoffs for the State championship.
The Patriots have three regular season games remaining. Depending on how those games turn out, along with the results of several other key match ups around the league, Portsmouth could finish the season anywhere from fifth to eighth place. Seeding for the playoffs depends on the team’s position in the standings at the completion of the regular season. Portsmouth’s first round opponent, and location of the games will be determined at that time.
The post-season will consist of Quarter-final, Semi-final, and State Championship series. Each round will be played as a best two out of three series, with the winner advancing to the next round.
The first round of the Division-2 playoffs is scheduled to begin the weekend of March 13.
