Local trio win HSR titles: Merrillville shot putter Brett Norton, Michigan City high jump Keyshawn McGill and Andrean hurdler Cameron Williams all captured top honors in their respective events at the Hoosier State Relays Saturday in Bloomington.
In the large school (Class 4A-6A) Norton just missed 60 feet with a throw of 59-10 1/2, while McGill cleared 6-6, two inches ahead of LaPorte's Jacob Marsh. Williams ran a time of 8.32 seconds to win the 60-meter hurdles in the small school (A-3A) division. Local runners-up included Crown Point's 3,200 relay and Chesterton's distance medley. In the A-3A girls meet, Bowman's Academy's Jessica Palmer was the 60 dash runner-up, leading three Eagles medalists in the event, and ran a leg on the second-place 800 relay.
