JUNE 9, 2016 - The '03 Girls battled through and won the Border Battle in Hudson, WI, this past weekend.
The '03 Girls played the 05 Machine in Game 1. They got off to a 3-0 lead after 1, adding a goal each in the 2nd and 3rd to win 5-0 over the 05 Machine. Kaley Niccum led the way offensively with 2 goals while Jayden Weisser stopped 12 shots for the shutout.
Next, the '03 Girls took on the Northern Storm. The game was scoreless through two periods before the '03 Girls scored two in the 3rd for a 2-0 win, their 2nd shutout of the tournament. Jayden Weisser made 25 saves in her 2nd shutout.
In the final round robin game, the '03 Girls got their 3rd shutout in a row, winning 7-0 over Tommy Chicago Gold. The team was led by Niccum (who tailed on all 7 goals with 4 goals and 3 assists), Ivy Ray (4 assists), Erika Roepke (3 goals) and Weisser (15 saves). Weisser recorded her 3rd shutout of the tournament as the '03 Girls advanced to the Championship against Tommy Chicago Green.
The competition at the Border Battle finally solved Weisser in the 1st as Tommy Chicago Green got off to a 3-2 lead after the 1st period. In between periods, Coach Holldorf and Coach Nack rejuvenated the '03 Girls as they scored 3 in the 2nd and 2 in the 3rd to win the Border Battle Championship 7-4.
Niccum (7 goals, 5 assists), Ray (2 goals, 5 assists) and Roepke (4 goals, 1 assist) lead the way offensively while Weisser went 4-0, with a 1.00 G.A.A., .947 SV%, and 3 shutouts.
