The Selects had two tough games on Saturday. The first contest against Melville started well with the Selects taking the lead in the first period after a nice goal from #14 Chelsea Dinnin (assist to #21 Taylor Joyal). The second period saw Melville scoring three unanswered goals to hold a 3-1 lead moving into the 3rd period. The Selects #19 Michaela Hamm scored a beauty on a determined rush at the start of the 3rd period that got the Selects going. They pressed hard, but ultimately fell when they gave up an empty net goal in the dying seconds when they were pressing for the tie. Final score was Melville 4 and the Selects 2.
The second contest of the day pitted the Selects against the Pembina Vallet Hawks. The Hawks took an early 1-0 lead and added a second goal before the end of the 1st period to lead 2-0 after 20 minutes. Even though the Selects improved their play in the second half of the 2nd period they gave up another goal and trailed 3-0 going into the final 20 minutes. The final 20 minutes saw the two teams trade scoring chances, but in the end the Selects fell 3-0 to the Hawks. The Selects will try to regroup for their last contest of the showcase tomorrow at 11:45 against Battleford.
