The Steele County Blades are proud to announce that Mike Severson has committed to play NCAA hockey at Hamline University in the fall. Mike played parts of 2 seasons in a Steele County Blades uniform.

The Viroqua, WI native played in 28 games for the Blades last year. He went 8-9 with an 2.92 Goals Against Average and a .906 Save Percentage.Through all of his hard work. In total, Mike had a Goals Against Average of 3.58 and a save percentage of .901 in his two years of service to the Steele County Blades.

Head Coach Nick Adamek had this to say about Mike’s choice. “This has been a long time in the making. Mike has worked his tail off to get to this point in his career. Though he had a few options, Hamline was an easy decision for him. This couldn’t have happened to a better kid, Mike has done everything his teammates have asked of him over
the last two years and we will forever be in his debt. Hamline is getting a great goaltender, but most importantly a good teammate.”

“I’m very excited to join Hamline University as a student athlete this fall. It’s a great school with a high standard of excellence, and the hockey team has been very successful behind Coach Laylin. It’s also exciting to be in the Twin Cities and the State of Hockey, as they’ve both become a second home to me.” Mike added, “I cannot thank the Steele County Blades, Coach Adamek, and Coach Solari for providing an excellent platform to grow both as an individual and as a hockey player, as well as all the guidance they’ve given me. I wouldn’t have this opportunity without the help of Ryan Ess at Devenir Goaltending, and all of my other coaches, friends, family, and teammates who have been there through this entire process.”

Hamline University is located in St. Paul, MN. The Pipers play in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) at the NCAA Division III level. They are coached by Cory Laylin, who is entering his fourth season as Head Coach of the Pipers

Mike joins brothers Soren and Erik Colstrup, and fellow Goaltender Tim Grounds in committing to a school. Grounds previously committed to University of Wisconsin- River Falls, Erik and Soren to Framingham State University. The Blades will have more announcements of where their players will be headed shortly.
