Saline Football In Haiti
2/11/2013

Jake Swick (#53) and Alex Kendig (#44) serving in Haiti with Poured-Out

Hornet Football Seniors Jake Swick and Alex Kendig recently spent some time in Haiti serving with fellow Saline Seniors and the non-profit Poured-Out (founded by Saline alum Carlee (Green) Munz) as part of their Senior Capstone Experience Class.
In all, the group installed 30 filters that will provide almost 900 gallons of clean water a day over the next ten years! The filters required the team to carry 2 40lb bags of sand, 1 bag of large gravel, 1 bag of small gravel, and the plastic filter to each home, often over difficult terrain and conditions.

They also made great connections with the Haitian translators, young men who grew up in an orphanage in Port-au-Prince. They played football, basketball, and soccer with the team, the translators, and the Haitian kids.  Evan Kourtjian, former Saline Football standout (and current UM student), also made the trip.
The group is heading back over spring break. This time, Saline Football's Aaron Leonard will be joining the effort!

It is an amazing leadership opportunity and an incredible humanitarian effort.  Please consider joining this great cause!
