Jake Force (left) is introduced by Portsmouth High School Athletic Director, Steve Trezvant as the recipient of the 2017 hockey Coach’s Award at the Senior’s Athletic Banquet. The honor, given annually, is presented to the player whose contributions on and off the ice had the greatest positive impact on the team. Jake, who started his association with the hockey team eight years ago as the young kid with the goal lamp poster, was recognized for his longevity and, more importantly, for the impact he had during the most recent campaign on fostering a cohesive team atmosphere during a “rebuilding” season. Head Coach Mike Monahan cited Jake’s concern for all his teammates, his respect for the coaches, and his passion for, and love of, the game of hockey as factors that led to the success of the team. His presence led to the squad becoming a “family” with a positive locker room culture that translated into the team being competitive in every game. Congratulations to Jake on receiving this well-deserved recognition.
