ALL DIVISION TEAMS ANNOUNCED
3/20/2018

Three members of the Portsmouth hockey team  were selected by the league’s head coaches to be recognized as All Division II South players.  Three “teams,” designated as First, Second and Third, each had three forwards, two defensemen and a goalie singled out for their outstanding play throughout the regular season.

Picking up First Team honors was Portsmouth’s All-Star goalie, Matt Nordhill.  There was little discussion and even less doubt among the voters that that Nordhill deserved the top ranking based on his play this season.  Earning a spot on the Second Team were forward Cam Mello, and defenseman Mike Alves.  Mello was the only forward chosen for any of the three teams that was not among the league’s top scorers.  Instead he was recognized for his playmaking ability, his two-way play, and for his skill in the face-off circle.  Alves’ selection is particularly notable as he was one of only three players chosen who were are not seniors.  His strong defensive play coupled with his goal scoring ability is well known by the coaches of the other teams in the league.

All of the players selected will receive a plaque to commemorate their achievement and will be feted at an All Division banquet to be held, March 27 at the Crown Plaza Hotel, in Warwick.  Congratulations to Matt Nordhill, Cam Mello, and Mike Alves on their selection as All- Division II South players.
