LADERA RANCH, Calif. – As the transfer portal starts to slow down, grassroots basketball season is starting to heat up. This weekend, Adidas is Southern California for the first session of their 3SSB circuit. Tipping off at 9:30 am, the three stripes group convened for a full day of basketball on Friday and there was no shortage of talent for 247Sports to check in on.
With a few exceptions, we'll be focusing our on-site coverage throughout the weekend on members of the class of 2027 before getting to 2028 and 2029 standouts during our post event coverage. With that in mind, here's what caught our attention on the first day of the weekend.
DAVIS BACKS UP TOP-15 STATUS
Ranked No. 15 nationally in the class of 2027, 6-foot-3 combo guard Jalen Davis of Slow Grind Elite backed up his lofty status on Friday. Coming off of his second state title at Bremerton (Wash.) High, Davis put on a shot making clinic and did everything in his power to try and score a win over North Carolina based Garner Road. While his team couldn't quite score the comeback win, Davis was a load while scoring 37 points, grabbing four rebounds, handing out three assists and nabbing five steals.
Davis is exactly what you envision in a combo guard. He can play on or off the ball and is capable of running an offense and finding others. However, what he does best is score the ball and he does so with a high degree of skill. He banged jumpers off the dribble and off the catch, got to the free throw line and does a better job of playing through contact than you might expect given his relatively thin frame. |

He stopped by UCLA for an unofficial visit on Thursday and scored an offer from Mick Cronin and the Bruins who joined Houston, Iowa, Gonzaga, Oregon, Stanford, Washington and several others who have already offered. |
