WATERTOWN-Mohawk Valley (25-21) scored seven runs over the final two inning to beat Watertown (18-27) 9-3 and make the postseason thanks to an Oneonta loss against Glens Falls. Taylor Wright (Brown) got the win (2-0), while J.P. Perez (St. Mary’s (TX.)) took the loss (1-1).
The Wizards started off the scoring with two in the first. An error by Jack Morrow (Young Harris) at first base allowed Donald Walter (Cal Poly Pomona) and Chris Glynn (UW-Parkside) to score. The Diamond Dawgs chipped away over the next several innings and trailed 3-2 going into the eighth.
Perez came in for Watertown in the top of the inning. He gave up singles to the first two batters. Chris Cruz (Cornell) stole two bases in the inning, including home on a double steal for the tying run. Mohawk Valley led 4-3 after eight and in the ninth picked up where it left off. The Diamond Dawgs sent ten batters to the plate in the inning and scored five runs to break in open. They were helped by three Wizard errors.
Evan Davis (Marist) started for Mohawk Valley and struck out seven. All three runs he allowed were unearned. Three Diamond Dawgs had multi-hit games. Mark Stuckey (Marist) led the team with three RBI’s .
Watertown used six pitchers in the game. Matt McClain (St. Mary's (Tx.) and Brian Burns (Plattsburgh) combined to one run in five innings and strike out seven.
