A young Hamden Hall Ice Hockey team took the ice for the first time together and under the guidance of Head Coach Tim Belcher. Their first game was this past Friday against The Harvey School. The Harvey School had the Fairchester Athletic Association's best record in the 2017-2018 season and came into the match with several games under their belt in the 2018-2019 season. The matchup marked Hamden Hall's re-entry into the FAA in a number of years; a re-entry for a team with a lot to prove.
Hamden Hall had infield-to-goalie convert Michael Coggins who rose to the occassion, it being literally his first game as a starting goalie and his first full game in net. The score got away from the Hornets in the first two periods, despite some spectacular saves, but for those who have watched in recent years, this 2018-2019 Hornet team was relentless playing three solid periods including some great puck movement and a decent amount of offensive zone time.
The third period went to the Hornets where Harvey was allowed zero goals and senior Ryan Reynolds sent one "five-hole" into the net from the point. This goal followed a great effort and lots of pressure by the Hornet team.
It is yet to be determined whether the Hornet team will be able to make its mark in the competitive FAA, but one thing's for certain...with great leadership and determination they're planning on it!
The Hornets will next host Wooster School 12/5 3:30PM at the Northford Ice Pavilion. Come out and cheer on your Hamden Hall Hornets!
