WEST DES MOINES, IA – The Sugar Creek (MO) Shockers come to town this Saturday evening to face the Des Moines Blaze in their annual Family Day Game sponsored by Easter Seals. The game will feature clowns, a bouncy house, face painting, Game Truck and top notch semi-pro action starting at 7 pm at Valley Stadium. As always, children 12 and under receive free admission.
The Shockers (4-2) come in winners of two in a row, featuring the MFA’s top rusher in Shemond Davis. Des Monies (6-0) boasts the top offense in the league with three of the top seven rushers, led by quarterback DeMareo Darrah, as well as the number one receiver, Randy Blackford.
On the other side of the ball Sugar Creek offers up the league’s top sacker in Anthony Johnson. While the Blaze defense lacks a single standout player they have given up only six points in four MFA contests this season, coming on a fourth quarter touchdown to the Midwest Titans; the league’s number two offense. Veterans Ben Bell, Antonio Alexander, Heath Hill, and David Rojas have paced the team along with newcomers Jordan Smith, Steve Seivert, and Raytron Lamar.
Des Moines will be in search of their 32nd straight victory spanning three undefeated seasons as they continue to strengthen their position as one of the top semi-pro programs in the country. Finishing #1 in the Semi-Pro BCS poll in 2011 the Blaze ended up #2 last season. The Blaze have defeated two National Championship Game winners on the road in the past year; taking care of the Racine (WI) Raiders 31-27 last July and the St. Paul (MN) Pioneers 27-22 in this years opener.
As the playoff push begins around the league it’s a great time to catch on to Des Moines Blaze football. Just Blaze!
