North Kansas City, Missouri: Your Midwest “Mighty” Titans just earned a #3 seed heading into Round 1 of the 2013 MFA Playoffs after taking the SC Shockers by storm with a 41-0 shutout victory this past Saturday night July 27th. With the victory; the "Mighty” Titans take their overall record to 7-2 and more important than their record, they rack up a first round home game which takes place this coming Saturday August 3, 2013 at North Kansas City High District Stadium. After dealing with some tough challenges and overcoming some adversity the last two weeks; your Titans came out clicking on all cylinders. On this night many players stepped up in big ways to help the "Mighty” Titans to victory! Starting WR Damond Berry (Central Missouri State University) was voted Offensive MVP this game scoring 2 TD’s receiving which help the Titans get out to a 14-0 lead early in the 1st quarter. Playing in his 2nd game with the Titans; back-up WR Sam Sowie (Grandview High) finished his night with 2 catches for 31 yards and 2 TD’s. Starting WR Derreck Hill also added 2 catches for 57 yards to help the Titans to 249 total receiving yards and 4 passing TD’s on the night. The Titans rushing game was slowed by a stingy Shockers Defense but was led by starting RB Jay Robinson (Missouri Western University) with 11 carriers for 51 yards. Coach Webb praised his 2 QB’s in which starter and field general Eric Hoskins (Missouri Western University) finished his night with 8 completions for 172 passing yards and 3 TD’s. Back-up QB Ryan Johnson (Northeast High) finished with 3 completions for 77 yards and 1TD. Big plays by many of the Titans “Fastest Show on Turf” Defense is the main reason why the SC Shockers never found the end-zone. Starting DT Terrance Williams (Missouri Western University) was a force in the middle and finished with 4 total tackles and 2 sacks. The Titans other starting DT Dakota Staponski (Missouri Valley College) finished his night with 3 total tackles and 2 sacks. OLB Robert Helsingr led the entire Titans defense in tackles with 11. Helsingr also added 1 sack of his own to the Titans 12 total sacks on the night. Thriving off a big time rival game; the Titans defensive secondary finished with a new single game record by picking off the Shockers QB’s 8 times on the night. DB Tyrone Groves (Avila University), Jamel Sims (Missouri Science & Technology University) and Willie Griffin (Mid-American Nazarene University) all had 2 interceptions each. The other two came by way of starting FS Jay Powell (Lincoln University) and OLB Kalif Barnes (Grandview High). The Midwest Titans would also like to say “Thank You” #64 Duane Brock for 7 years of hard work and dedication to their organization. Brock officially had his number retired during halftime of the game by Robert “Bo” Webb and Eric Hoskins. Brock has spent 22 years at the Minor League Level and been with the Midwest “Mighty” Titans since their inaugural season in 2007. The "Mighty Titans" return to action this Saturday August 3, 2013 when they host the Iowa Sharks in Round 1 of the 2013 MFA Playoffs. The Sharks is a veteran team that gave the Titans their closest contest of the season to only lose by 9 points three weeks ago in Sutherland, Iowa. Gates open at 4:00pm and Kickoff is set for 6:05pm!
