1/3/2022

Portsmouth moved into sole possession of first place in the Division II standings with a 6-1 victory over the Lincoln Lions Sunday afternoon at the Rhode Island Sports Center / Route 146 Rink.  Six different Patriots notched goals in the game as the team cruised to its third win against one loss in the new season.

James Lebreux put the Patriots on the scoreboard first with an unassisted goal at 5:40 of the first period.  It was his first goal of the current campaign.  The team then followed with goals by Shane Temple, Joey Levreault, Mac Dunn on a power play, and Aidan Toner.  Chris Chagnon capped the scoring for Portsmouth with an unassisted tally on a power play with three minutes left in the third period.  It was the first goal of his high school career for the senior forward.

Logan West, Dan Biello, and Toner were each credited with a single assist in the game.

Stephen Dutra, once again, starred between the pipes stopping 24 of the Lions’ 25 shots.  His outstanding performance included weathering a five-minute penalty kill that included two minutes of five-on-three without surrendering a goal.

Typical of games between Portsmouth and Lincoln, the contest was filled with penalties,  Each team was called for eight infractions.  The Patriots went on the power play six times and scored two goals.  In five penalty kill situations the team successfully held the Lions scoreless.

The campaign continues today with Portsmouth back at the Abbey for a 6:00 pm game with the North Kingstown.  It will be a showdown between the Skippers with the league’s highest scoring offense, and the Patriots with the league’s stingiest defense.  Its guaranteed to be an exciting game.  Come out to the Abbey and cheer for Portsmouth as the team looks to build on its lead in the Division II standings.  See you at the rink.
