Portsmouth ended its four-game skid Sunday afternoon with a 6-2 statement win over WWEWG, the co-op team from West Warwick, Exeter, West Greenwich. The Patriots dominated play from the opening faceoff. Shane Temple racked up two goals in the first period, then Steve Madden and Hadrian Doughtry each added another early in the second period to chase the Knight-Wizards starting goalie from the net. Connor Rogers then scored on the substitute goalie to give the team a 5-0 lead.
WWEWG got on the scoreboard with 10 seconds left in the second period, then again in the first minute of play in the third period. But that was all the Patriots’ goalie, Johnny Cabral, allowed as he stopped 34 shots by his opponent to deliver his best performance of the season and collect the win.
Chase Pascoe capped the scoring for Portsmouth with a tally late in the third period.
In addition to his goal, Connor Rogers also had two assists to finish the game with three points. Madden, who scored the game winning goal, collected an assist to go along with his goal, as did Doughtry and Pascoe, as well. Two other players, Dan Biello and Ben West, rounded out the assists with one each.
Game Notes:
The team is back on the road again next Saturday for a 7:30 pm game with the Cranston Falcons, at the Cranston Veterans Memorial Rink. The Falcons are a Division 2B team so this will be the only regular season meeting between the two squads. The Patriots will be looking to continue their winning ways and even their record at the halfway point of the schedule. Head over to Cranston Saturday evening and root for Portsmouth.
See you at the rink.
