QUARTERFINALS GAME 2 - PHS 5 WWEWG 3
3/3/2024

The best of three series moved back to the Abbey on Saturday, March 2 for Game 2.  With a capacity crowd on hand to see the game and the Patriots in a must win situation the stage was set.

By the time the first period ended the score was tied at two goals apiece.  The Wizards has scored first jiust 40 seconds into the game.  Luke Brule answered with a tying goal just 20 seconds later and Connor Rogers put Portsmouth in the lead midway through the period.  Late goals in the periods have been an issue for the Patriots and they surrendered one with just 23 seconds left before the intermission.

Dan Biello and Chase Pascoe put the Patriots in front with two unanswered goals in the second half of the second period.  It was a lead the team would not relinquish, and Pascoe’s tally eventually turned out to be the game winner.

Each team scored once more in the third period but PHS’ two goal margin remained the same.  Shane Temple had that final goal for Portsmouth.

WWEWG outshot PHS 36 to 34 in the game.  Johnny Cabral, in goal for Portsmouth, had 33 saves on the way to earning his first ever playoff win.

With the win the quarterfinal series was knotted at a game each.  After a scheduled day off the deciding game three would be played back on the Wizards’ home ice on Monday.
