PHS WINS, ADVANCES TO SEMI-FINALS

The Patriots defeated the Cumberland Clippers in Game 2 of the Division 2 Quarterfinal Series of the  Championship Playoffs Saturday night by a score of 3-1.  The victory at the Rhode Island Sports Center completed the sweep of the Clippers in the best of three series and propelled PHS into the semi-final round.

 

Portsmouth got the scoreboard first with a power play goal by Hadrian Dougherty assisted by Connor Rogers and Kane Brule.  Cumberland evened the score with a power play goal midway through the second period, but Luke West answered less than 30 seconds later with a tally that eventually proved to be the game winner.  Rogers and Dougherty assisted on West’s goal.  Kane Brule padded the lead with another power play goal at the end of the period assisted by Luke Brule and Dougherty.

 

The Patriots dominated play the entire game outshooting Cumberland 33-16.  Portsmouth goaltender Ben Humm had 15 saves on the way to claiming his second playoff win.

 

Portsmouth’s opponent in the semi-finals will be the Blackstone Valley Schools Co-op better known as simply BVS.  That game will be played at the Providence College Schneider Arena on Wednesday, March 11, at 5:30 PM.  Come to the game and cheer for Portsmouth
