BCC Dolphins offense too much for Catawba Valley CC in 7-0 rout

4-1-13

The BCC Dolphins refused to relinquish the lead after grabbing it early against Catawba Valley CC, recording a 7-0 victory on Saturday at Catawab Valley.  Six runs in the first three innings allowed the Dolphins to put the game away early.  A sacrifice fly by Jonathan Corbett and an RBI double by Ryan Brendle in the first inning helped BCC put some runs on the board early.  Brendle had two extra-base hits for the Dolphins.

BCC's Jimmy Boyd kept Catawba Valley CC off the scoreboard for all seven innings he was on the hill. He pitched a shutout, allowing no runs on five hits while striking out one.

Hunter Allen, Corbett, Brendle and Michael Deese helped lead the Dolphins. They combined for nine hits and five RBIs.  BCC  increased its lead with four runs in the third. The inning looked promising, as Allen doubled, bringing home Deese to kick things off. That was followed up by Brendle's double, scoring Allen.

Graham went 1-2 and scored one run. He singled in the second inning.

Cumberland Community College couldn't get anything going as long as Keaton Oaks was pitching. Oaks held Cumberland Community College hitless over 1 2/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one.

Chet Godfrey got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. He allowed two runs over seven innings. He struck out two, walked two and surrendered five hits. The game was never in doubt after the first, as Cumberland Community College scored one run on.  Cumberland Community College matched its one-run third inning with one more in the fourth. In the third, Cumberland Community College scored on an error, plating Tim Gallagher.  After pushing across two runs in the bottom of the fourth, BCC Dolphins faced just a 3-2 deficit. A two-run single by Matt Archer sparked BCC Dolphins' rally. Finally, Godfrey induced an inning-ending ground out from Michael Deese.
