"WITH MY DEGREE IN HAND"...

TEDDY BRIDGEWATER

http://cbssports.com/images/blogs/teddy-bridgewater-26nflscouts.jpg Louisville Cardinals QB Teddy Bridgewater will forgo his senior season and enter the NFL draft, the school announced Wednesday.

"This was an extremely difficult decision for me," Bridgewater said in a statement released by the school. "I can't express how much my time at Louisville has meant to me. These past three years have allowed me to mature as a person and leave the university as a better person, with my degree in hand, which was one of my goals.

"I will cherish every moment on the field and off the field, and every bond I built."

Bridgewater, 21, is the top-rated quarterback prospect by ESPN's Todd McShay and the No. 8 player overall. He graduated last month with a degree in sports administration, the first member of his family to graduate from college.  For More go to www.espn.com.

  THE HEISMAN TROPHY

The Most Prestigious Award in College Football

"AND THE 2013 HEISMAN GOES TO..."

QB JAMEIS WINSTON

Florida State University  - 3rd FSU Player to claim the elite prize

Orlando Sentinel

NEW YORK — His voice crackling, Jameis Winston stood on the stage to accept the Heisman Trophy.

Winston, normally poised and polished Florida State quarterback, was so nervous that he had to shake some former Heisman winners’ hands several times before he started his speech. Winston looked down at his parents and almost cried. He then thanked his coaches from college and high school, and his teammates.

Then, finally, Winston was able to walk over to the Heisman Trophy. After a season filled with highs on the field and a month filled with turmoil off of it, he could finally clutch college football’s most prestigious prize.

“When I grabbed the trophy, I was like, ‘This is my trophy.’ It was like a little kid,” Winston said. “I didn’t even want to pick it up. I wanted to hug the trophy, because it was mine.”

Winston was named the 2013 Heisman Trophy winner Saturday during a ceremony in New York that was broadcast nationally on ESPN.

He was the second redshirt freshman and youngest player ever to earn the award.

As expected, Winston beat reigning Heisman winner Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M, Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron, Auburn running back Tre Mason, Boston College running back Andre Williams and Northern Illinois quarterback Jordan Lynch.

He received 2,205 points. McCarron came in second place with 704 points, creating the fifth-largest margin of victory in the modern Heisman era, despite Winston being left off 115 ballots. His 668 first-place votes are 9th all time.

“This is the first time I’ve been speechless in a long time,” said the normally talkative Winston.

As a child, Winston used to dream about winning the Heisman. A family friend would urge him to strike a Heisman pose while playing youth football, but Winston said he “eventually grew out of that.”

Winston was more focused on the journey to the Heisman than the award itself. A two-sport athlete, Winston was often seen doing leg workouts for football on the same day he was expected to pitch for his high school baseball team. He knew it was preparing him for playing at the next level.

In his first year as a starter, Winston has helped guide FSU to a spot in the BCS National Championship Game, where the Seminoles will face off against Auburn. Winston has embraced his role as a team leader and his teammates have shown they were eager to follow.

“I was appointed to be a leader. Jameis has that natural ability to be a leader as a young guy,” FSU senior defensive back Lamarcus Joyner said a few days before the ceremony. “I noticed that on scout team … just seeing a guy making throws and doing things that [2012 starter and first-round NFL draft pick] EJ Manuel [would make.]. … To see a guy as a freshman doing that, I was like, ‘This is a special kid.’”

While he did not start the year on many Heisman watch lists, Winston quickly entered the picture after he threw for 356 yards and touchdowns on 25-of-27 passing (92.6 completion percentage) against Pitt in the season opener.

From that first game, the season has belonged Winston.

Winston did not maintain that torrid pace, but he continued to perform at a high level, accumulating 3,820 passing yards (10th nationally), 38 passing touchdowns (second nationally) and a 190.1 passing efficiency rating (first nationally).

More important, Winston led FSU to the only undefeated mark in the country.

Press Release

December 22, 2013

http://gwyawp.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Peyton-Manning-Game-1.jpgSPORTS ILLUSTRATED'S "SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR" HAS MADE NFL HISTORY... QB PEYTON MANNING SETS NEW RECORD WITH 51 TOUCHDOWN PASSES IN A SINGLE SEASON.

Manning uncorked a perfect 25-yard pass to Julius Thomas to break Tom Brady's single-season record of 50 passing touchdowns.

Manning added a pinpoint 35-yard toss to Decker and beat double coverage to squeeze a 36-yard touchdown into Demaryius Thomas' arms.

Already the only team in history to feature four players with double-digit touchdowns, the Broncos added a fifth behind Decker's two scores Sunday.

The fourth-quarter onslaught, featuring three touchdowns in nine minutes is illustrative of Manning's historic season. Even when this offense is held in check for a significant portion of the game, they repeatedly have shown the ability to pull away with a flurry of touchdowns.

Manning is up to 5,211 passing yards on the season, just 265 behind Drew Brees' single-season record. Denver also needs 18 points in the season finale to break the 2007 Patriots' scoring record.

The Broncos wrapped up the AFC West and a first-round bye Sunday.

The Early Years

University of Miami football literally was born in the midst of a hurricane.  On September 15, 1926, construction began on a temporary, 8,000-seat stadium on campus at the edge of Coral Gables.  But one day later, the Great Miami Hurricane, leveled much of South Florida, killing more that 130 people in the Miami area and damaging more than 10,000 homes.  A makeshift grandstand eventually was built with lumaber from a dismantled stadium in Coral Gables.  The grassless field jokingly was called "Sandspur Stadium."  The first game was played October 23, five days after classes had begun at the new school.  UM's president, Dr. Bowman F. Ashe, hired Howard "Cub" Buck, a two-time All-American at Wisconsin, to coach the team.  Just two weeks before the opening of classes, Buck organized a team and it was an instant success.  Playing a freshman schedule with seven of eight games at home, the team won all eight and outscored the opposition 122-13.[1]

During the entire 1926 season, the team played without a nickname.  UM's End Porter Norris is said to be the first to use the nickname "Hurricanes".   Some reports suggest it was in reference to the devastating power of the 1926 hurricane that postponed the program's first game by a month.  The team officially adopted it over the objections of some of the people in the community.  Subsequently, all of the University's athletic teams were nicknamed the Hurricanes in memory of this catastrophe.

The school's mascot is Sebastian, an ibis. The ibis is a small white bird that can be seen around south Florida and especially on the UM campus. An ibis was selected to represent the Hurricanes because of folklore in which it is typically the last bird to leave before a hurricane strikes and the first to return once it's gone.[2]

Sebastin is one of the most recognizable college mascots in the United States.
