Brogan Meyers and Christian Pham were selected as nominees for the Seattle Chapter's 49th Annual Scholar-Athlete Award. The awards banquet was held on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at CenturyLink Field, West Club Level.
For the past 48 years, the annual banquet has been held to recognize and award scholarships to outstanding local football players who excel on the field, in the classroom and in the community. The process begins at the end of the season when athletes are nominated by their coaches. Each school is represented by two players: a back and a lineman.
A selection committee consisting of former coaches, players and administrators then perform the difficult task of narrowing the list down to four backs and four linemen. At our annual Awards Ceremony, one back and one lineman receive a Scholar-Athlete Scholarship of $2000. Each of the remaining six finalists receive a scholarship of $500.
Both Brogan and Christian are 4.0 students who excel in the classroom and on the field. They are model students and set a precedence that all Mount Rainier students-athletes should strive for. These are unbelievable young men, with extraordinary futures ahead of them.
In addition to the National Football Foundation Award, Christian is the team's 1st Trooper Brett Thompson & 911 Driving School Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award winner, which is presented for outstanding football performance, academic achievement, school and community leadership, and sets the example for all current and future Scholar Athletes. He will receive a $1000.00 scholarship once he enrolls in college.
Brogan's leadership and positive impact is impeccable. As stated in a previous article (http://www.hometeamsonline.com/teams/default.asp?u=MOUNTRAINIERFOOTBALL&s=football&p=newsstory&newsID=45918), he is the epitome of hard work, discipline and education. He's a natural leader that models by example and is the understructure of the Mount Rainier Football Program. Meyers has left major shoes to fill at Mount Rainier and without doubt, has left his imprint on campus for years to come.
Coach Mack says, "I couldn't be more proud of these guys. The mark they have made in only four years is the standard that will forever represent the expectations of our football program here at Mount Rainier.
Congratulations to Brogan Meyers and Christian Pham! Good luck in all of your future endeavors.
