OMAHA, NE - The Omaha Stockmen Semi-Pro football team have just reached an agreement with new Head Coach Andrew Mather. Coach Mather will also be calling the plays on offense during the 2016 Season. Andrew began his coaching years with Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa helping at various positions and would later move on to the professional ranks where he was an assistant coach with the Sioux City Bandits and the Omaha Beef.
Coach Mather and his family are no strangers to the Ralston Community in which the Stockmen call home. He’s an elementary teacher during the day for the Ralston School District and also is the Head Coach of Ralston Middle School’s football team. Hopefully this will be an additional stepping stone in continuing to build the relationship between the Stockmen and Ralston in the community.
When asked about the opportunity, “I’m excited to work with young men and adults again in accomplishing their goals whether it be related to football or everyday life,” said Coach Mather. When Stockmen part-owner Kelly Plageman was asked about the new hire, “Andrew’s personality will be a great fit for our players and current staff. He knows what he’s doing and what he’s talking about.”
When she was asked about 2016 predictions, “I foresee our team growing larger and stronger. We had a great group of guys last year, many of them who are coming back to play. I think with a year under our belt, going to the playoffs again or even the championship game isn’t out of the question.” This seems to be a realistic goal with the Stockmen returning 16 starters, two of which played in the All-Star Game.
The Stockmen have also retained Defensive Coordinator Dontae Allen and added Luke Procopio as Wide Receivers Coach. Luke played his college ball up the road at Midland University and played Tight End last season for the Stockmen. The Stockmen are also in talks with two additional coaching candidates to add to their 2016 staff.
The Omaha Stockmen are a semi-pro football team that provides their players with a forum in which to develop their talents to advance to the next level or simply to enjoy the game they love; their fans a low-cost, wholesome family atmosphere in which to enjoy American’s favorite pastime on a summer evening, and our beloved Omaha, a team of which to be proud.
