Spring Valley defensive back Cameron Jones has verbally committed to Army.
Jones originally committed to Bucknell and also had an offer from S.C. State. He made his official visit to West Point a week ago.
“I really like environment up there and the bond and brotherhood that was between the players and coaches,” Jones said. “Everyone looks after each other.”
Jones said he was initially worried about committing to Army because of the four-year military commitment after his playing days, but that didn’t matter after making his visit.
Jones played for Spring Valley the past two seasons after moving from Atlanta. He was an all-region selection this season, led the Vikings with three interceptions to go with 93 tackles.
Jones is one of two Spring Valley players to commit to Division I programs. Kicker R.J. Bacon committed to Presbyterian and quarterback Ryan Lee said he’s close to committing to Coastal Carolina. He had his official visit there over the weekend. Lee had 1,231 yards of total offense this season and 18 touchdowns. He’s being recruited by Coastal to play receiver.
River Bluff kicker Justin Salters committed to North Greenville on Wednesday. Salters was 8-of-12 on field goals this season, including 4-of-6 from 40-49 yards.
Nearly half of Salters’ 59 kickoffs went for touchbacks this season.
